When you arrive at the Cancun airport, you will be anxious to get on the island as soon as possible. You will first need to go through immigration. Then you will need to claim your luggage and head towards customs. Plan on spending 30-90 minutes in immigration/customs. The more organized you are, the quicker it goes.
CASA MÚSICA DEL CARIBE has made arrangements for a discounted private van transportation service. Okay…in the interest of full transparency, your van may not look this cool. The private van information will be provided to the guest after the reservation has been confirmed – deposit received, rental agreement signed and returned along with copy of primary renter’s driver’s license. It is about a 20-25 minute drive from the airport to the ferry dock.
Upon arrival at the Ultramar ferry dock, you will need to purchase your round trip ticket and wait for the next ferry to arrive to whisk you away to start your downtime in paradise. Your van driver can pre-purchase these for you for no additional charge other than what the ticket costs. Advance notice is necessary. This picture is what your ferry will look like. You can sit on the open air top deck, which we highly recommend, and prepare to be mesmerized by how blue and how clear the Caribbean waters really are! Watch Isla Mujeres get closer and closer. Enjoy the musicians and don’t forget to tip the entertainers. They play for tips only. More information regarding your arrival will be forwarded to you after you reservation is confirmed.

ADO Bus Service Within Mexico
ADO Bus Information
If you would rather take a bus than have a private van service waiting for you at the airport, then this is what you can expect at the airport. The buses are very inexpensive. The price you will pay is time. The lines are long and it will take a lot more time to get to the ferry – especially if you have a large group of people and a lot of luggage.
The Cancun International Airport has regular departures (every 30 minutes) from each terminal. A bus ride from the airport to the main downtown station is about 20-25 minutes. From there, you and your luggage can catch a taxi (or even a city bus) to get to the ferry.
Their website shows schedules and routes. However, be warned! In order for you to purchase a bus ticket online, you must have an account set up with ADO (which is fairly simple; just an email and password), and you can only buy the tickets if you have a Mexican debit or credit card. Very frustrating to navigate, which is why your best bet is buying your ticket in person at the bus station or at a kiosk.
Enjoy your journey and see you soon.
